MARCIA BEHRENBRUCH – Agency and Student Voice: From Tokenism to Transformation

March 18 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm AEDT

$50 – $100

‘Agency’ is a concept that is increasingly heard in schools, and associated with the idea of empowered learners, student leadership, voice, choice, and ownership in learning. However, too often, in practice agency is tokenistic with control still with teachers and the end goal focussed on improved learning. This webinar delves beneath the tip of the agency ‘iceberg’. It explores agency as a complex concept connected to wellbeing, policy development and participatory democracy. The session will consider how Vygotsky’s activity theory can be used to consider the complexities of building a transformative, agentic community.
