SUMMARY:Bringing Montessori Sports to Life in the 3–12 Environment
DESCRIPTION:Bringing Montessori Sports to Life in the 3–12 Environment\nPatrick Oudejans and co-host Tom Ransom will explore how purposeful movement and sport can be seamlessly integrated into Montessori environments for children ages 3–12. \nThis session introduces the Montessori Sports framework\, rooted in child development\, independence\, and joyful movement\, and demonstrates practical ways to implement meaningful physical activity across Children’s House (3–6) and Elementary (6–12) communities. \nPatrick and Tom will share real examples from classrooms and playgrounds worldwide and in Australia\, showing how movement can: \n\n\nStrengthen concentration and focus \n\n\nSupport social-emotional growth \n\n\nFoster a positive community culture \n\n\nSee Montessori Sports in action in a local Australian school\, with concrete strategies\, materials\, and approaches you can implement immediately. \nThis webinar is ideal for school leaders\, guides\, and movement educators seeking practical inspiration and actionable insights for integrating movement and sport into Montessori classrooms. \nMeet Your Hosts\nPatrick Oudejans\nPatrick Oudejans is the co-founder of Montessori Sports\, an organisation dedicated to integrating purposeful movement and sport into Montessori environments worldwide. With a background in elite football coaching and Montessori pedagogy\, Patrick works with schools\, educators\, and sports organisations across the globe to design child-centered movement programs for all ages. He regularly speaks at international Montessori conferences and leads the AMI-accredited Montessori Sports Fundamentals Course. Patrick is passionate about helping communities use movement to nurture independence\, wellbeing\, and the holistic development of every child. \nTom Ransom\nAfter working in a high school for two years\, Tom felt that he loved teaching\, but found many aspects of the education system he worked in troubling. When he observed in a Montessori 3-6 environment while trying to decide which school to send his son to\, Tom knew that he had found something very special. He decided to pursue this passion\, and has worked at Canberra Montessori since 2013\, in both 6-9 and 9-12 environments. \nTom began studying Montessori Sports in 2020\, and quickly realised the benefits for the whole class\, and the whole school. He runs Sport as a fully integrated part of the classroom\, where children receive lessons\, in small groups\, in the normal work cycle\, there are materials available on a shelf\, and they independently use the outdoor environment for follow up. Sport has so many benefits of a Montessori classroom that Tom says he would never want to work in an environment without it.

SUMMARY:Whole Child: Whole Community\, driving holistic success for neurodiverse students.
DESCRIPTION:Whole Child: Whole Community\, driving holistic success for neurodiverse students.\nHow can we better understand and support neurodiverse students in a way that is responsive\, informed\, and meaningful? \nIn this session\, Kate draws on over 20 years of experience working with autistic individuals and their families across home\, school\, employment\, and organisational settings. Her work is grounded in the belief that individuals and families are the experts in their own lives\, and that effective support begins with listening\, understanding\, and collaboration. \nThis presentation begins with an overview of autism\, focusing on aspects that are often less well understood. As a diagnosis that presents differently in every individual\, educators are supported to move beyond generalisations and develop a more nuanced understanding of what autism means in practice. \nThe second part of the session explores overarching best-practice strategies that can be applied within educational settings. These approaches are designed to build confidence\, strengthen relationships\, and support environments where neurodiverse students can thrive. \nAbout Kate Exner\nWith more than 20 years’ experience supporting autistic people and their families\, Kate has worked across the full array of autism-support environments – from one-on-one with younger children at home\, to schools\, in employment settings and as a consultant improving autism accessibility for large organisations. She is committed to providing responsive care that acknowledges people on the autism spectrum and their families are the experts in their own lives. In a therapeutic sense she works collaboratively with families and individuals to explore their diagnosis and devise strategies to help achieve their goals.  As a consultant\, Kate leads by example\, sharing real-life insights and supporting businesses and schools to build the understanding\, confidence\, and empathy needed to create best-practice approaches that benefit everyone in their community.

SUMMARY:Being Child-led with Montessori philosophy - finding the way to identify and assist the development of infant\, toddler or child with a shared vision
DESCRIPTION:This session explores how understanding individual differences – sensory\, emotional\, and relational – strengthens connection\, regulation\, and learning for all children. Drawing on Montessori philosophy and contemporary developmental insights\, participants will examine how careful observation\, flexible assumptions\, and thoughtful environmental design support children to engage authentically and with greater ease. Children need to be observed objectively\, and for adults/environments to perhaps move from a different set of assumptions. The adult has to drop biases about how the child should experience the world\, communicate\, or feel emotions.\n\nTogether\, we will reflect on the role of the eight sensory systems\, the importance of regulation as a foundation for learning\, and how adults’ communication style\, pace\, and expectations shape a child’s experience. Practical\, Montessori‑aligned examples will illustrate how adapting environments and interactions – rather than correcting children – supports autonomy\, self‑awareness\, and meaningful participation.\nThis session is suitable for educators\, parents\, and school administrators seeking to deepen their capacity to follow the child\, honour individual difference\, and apply Montessori principles intentionally within everyday practice.\n\nMeet Your Host \nClare Jameson\nClare has blended her passions for education and therapy to support schools\, parents\, and children in their seeking of ways to find a sense of how they can hold themselves with more ease in the world. \nClare was an owner and directress for ten years of a 0-6-year-old pre-school in South Africa. On migrating to Australia\, Clare was part of the Northside Montessori School for 7 years\, both as a parent and as an educator in the 0-3 and 3-6 year old rooms.  In addition to Montessori training\, Clare also added Psychomotor Education training into her skill base as a useful understanding of the mind/body connection. Clare trained in counselling to better understand and provide in-built responses within the school community. Consulting with other Montessori communities has been part of the sharing of these experiences to assist community responses to shifting needs and demands. \nMoving into private practice has allowed the facilitation of the ‘follow the child’ ethos of Montessori philosophy to be present through child-centric approaches and modalities.  There is a fundamental difference between therapy and education….what is possible is to bridge the learning in therapy to translate into generalised application in the school room.  This can be a coordinated effort to observe and share with adults who are part of the macro support to a child. The balance to find is the acknowledgment of the presentations and capacity for the child\, along with the adaptation of the environment (which includes people!) to find common goals.  Having a shared vision that has the child as the central focus usually results in positive outcomes for all.
