MSCA celebrates a successful Grassroots Conference 2o22
“Thank you for a truly life-changing weekend.”
MSCA is delighted to have hosted its inaugural Grassroots Conference in the Adelaide Hills this September. With over 100 attendees and speakers, this was the largest event of its kind that MSCA has hosted. Over the course of two jam-packed days, we listened, learned, danced and discussed key topics that the Montessori education community is facing.
Key themes from the weekend were:
- Authentic First Nation inclusion
- Well-being including learning to listen and supporting big emotions
- Incorporating neuroscience in the classroom
- Use of technology with the Montessori pedagogy
Moreover, the weekend offered an opportunity for teachers, centre leaders and educators to discuss, challenge and support one another on the current education landscape. Many attendees celebrated the chance to be together as a Montessori community.
“I liked meeting other Montessori professionals and having my perspectives both affirmed and challenged.”
Highlights included the keynote from international speaker Pasi Sahlberg on educating children in an uncertain world, incorporating authentic First Nation voices into the classroom by Tim Moore, and well-being for children by Janis Coffey. All three talks captivated the room and offered practical tips on how to incorporate key learnings into the classroom or childcare centre.
Attendees were also treated to talks on Montessori Dance by Kei Ikeda, neuroscience in the classroom by Fiona Campbell and supporting big emotions from small people by Katy Walker; it truly was a weekend with a “whole child” focus.
MSCA would like to thank the sponsors again: Oskar’s Wooden Arc, Your Child’s Day, Sydney Montessori Training Centre, Riley Callie Resources, Guide and Grow, Building Futures Education, Montessori Child, Montessori Materials Australia, and Think Education Supplies.
MSCA is delighted to announce next year’s conference will be hosted in Melbourne in May. Details are to follow, check our socials or subscribe below to keep up to date!
