SUMMARY:Music in the Montessori Classroom with Jesam Stewart-Rech
DESCRIPTION:Music in the Montessori Classroom with Stewart-Rech\nNo musical experience? No problem! Whether you’re a seasoned musician or new to music\, this demonstration-based webinar gives practical strategies for engaging children inspired by Orff and Montessori principles. Learn to structure lessons\, guide behaviour\, manage transitions\, and differentiate for all abilities while teaching percussion\, drama\, and dance—with tips on finding materials and resources to make music joyful and manageable. \nMeet Your Host\nStewart-Rech\nJesam trained at WAAPA and the University of Tasmania\, completing double degrees in Piano Performance and Accompaniment. After moving to Melbourne\, she worked as a vocal accompanist and repetiteur\, where she discovered a love of theatre that continues to inspire\nher work. \nSearching for a meaningful\, non-mainstream education for her first child\, Jesam found Melbourne Montessori College\, where both of her children attended from Early Learners through to Year Six. Inspired by this experience\, she went on to qualify as a Primary Teacher\nand Orff practitioner\, drawn to the natural connection between the Orff approach and Montessori philosophy. \nSince joining the College in 2010 at the invitation of Dianne Davis\, Jesam has loved teaching Creative Expression across Cycles One to Three\, bringing together her passion for music\, creativity\, and child-centred learning.

SUMMARY:Being Child-led with Montessori philosophy - finding the way to identify and assist the development of infant\, toddler or child with a shared vision
DESCRIPTION:This session explores how understanding individual differences – sensory\, emotional\, and relational – strengthens connection\, regulation\, and learning for all children. Drawing on Montessori philosophy and contemporary developmental insights\, participants will examine how careful observation\, flexible assumptions\, and thoughtful environmental design support children to engage authentically and with greater ease. Children need to be observed objectively\, and for adults/environments to perhaps move from a different set of assumptions. The adult has to drop biases about how the child should experience the world\, communicate\, or feel emotions.\n\nTogether\, we will reflect on the role of the eight sensory systems\, the importance of regulation as a foundation for learning\, and how adults’ communication style\, pace\, and expectations shape a child’s experience. Practical\, Montessori‑aligned examples will illustrate how adapting environments and interactions – rather than correcting children – supports autonomy\, self‑awareness\, and meaningful participation.\nThis session is suitable for educators\, parents\, and school administrators seeking to deepen their capacity to follow the child\, honour individual difference\, and apply Montessori principles intentionally within everyday practice.\n\nMeet Your Host \nClare Jameson\nClare has blended her passions for education and therapy to support schools\, parents\, and children in their seeking of ways to find a sense of how they can hold themselves with more ease in the world. \nClare was an owner and directress for ten years of a 0-6-year-old pre-school in South Africa. On migrating to Australia\, Clare was part of the Northside Montessori School for 7 years\, both as a parent and as an educator in the 0-3 and 3-6 year old rooms.  In addition to Montessori training\, Clare also added Psychomotor Education training into her skill base as a useful understanding of the mind/body connection. Clare trained in counselling to better understand and provide in-built responses within the school community. Consulting with other Montessori communities has been part of the sharing of these experiences to assist community responses to shifting needs and demands. \nMoving into private practice has allowed the facilitation of the ‘follow the child’ ethos of Montessori philosophy to be present through child-centric approaches and modalities.  There is a fundamental difference between therapy and education….what is possible is to bridge the learning in therapy to translate into generalised application in the school room.  This can be a coordinated effort to observe and share with adults who are part of the macro support to a child. The balance to find is the acknowledgment of the presentations and capacity for the child\, along with the adaptation of the environment (which includes people!) to find common goals.  Having a shared vision that has the child as the central focus usually results in positive outcomes for all.

SUMMARY:Whole Child: Whole Community\, driving holistic success for neurodiverse students.
DESCRIPTION:Whole Child: Whole Community\, driving holistic success for neurodiverse students.\nHow can we better understand and support neurodiverse students in a way that is responsive\, informed\, and meaningful? \nIn this session\, Kate draws on over 20 years of experience working with autistic individuals and their families across home\, school\, employment\, and organisational settings. Her work is grounded in the belief that individuals and families are the experts in their own lives\, and that effective support begins with listening\, understanding\, and collaboration. \nThis presentation begins with an overview of autism\, focusing on aspects that are often less well understood. As a diagnosis that presents differently in every individual\, educators are supported to move beyond generalisations and develop a more nuanced understanding of what autism means in practice. \nThe second part of the session explores overarching best-practice strategies that can be applied within educational settings. These approaches are designed to build confidence\, strengthen relationships\, and support environments where neurodiverse students can thrive. \nAbout Kate Exner\nWith more than 20 years’ experience supporting autistic people and their families\, Kate has worked across the full array of autism-support environments – from one-on-one with younger children at home\, to schools\, in employment settings and as a consultant improving autism accessibility for large organisations. She is committed to providing responsive care that acknowledges people on the autism spectrum and their families are the experts in their own lives. In a therapeutic sense she works collaboratively with families and individuals to explore their diagnosis and devise strategies to help achieve their goals.  As a consultant\, Kate leads by example\, sharing real-life insights and supporting businesses and schools to build the understanding\, confidence\, and empathy needed to create best-practice approaches that benefit everyone in their community.

When he observed in a Montessori 3-6 environment while trying to decide which school to send his son to\, Tom knew that he had found something very special. He decided to pursue this passion\, and has worked at Canberra Montessori since 2013\, in both 6-9 and 9-12 environments. \nTom began studying Montessori Sports in 2020\, and quickly realised the benefits for the whole class\, and the whole school. He runs Sport as a fully integrated part of the classroom\, where children receive lessons\, in small groups\, in the normal work cycle\, there are materials available on a shelf\, and they independently use the outdoor environment for follow up. Sport has so many benefits of a Montessori classroom that Tom says he would never want to work in an environment without it.

SUMMARY:Montessori in the Age of AI with Amelia Cobb
DESCRIPTION:Montessori in the Age of AI\nHow can Montessori educators prepare children to approach AI with curiosity and discernment in a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence? \nAs AI integrates deeply into learning\, communicating\, and understanding the world\, our students must develop digital literacy to navigate this landscape effectively. This literacy extends beyond traditional skills\, including the ability to question\, analyse\, and discern truth in an era where AI can obscure the line between fact and fiction. \nIn this session\, we explore how AI does not replace human thinking but acts as a tool to enhance creativity\, curiosity\, and problem-solving. With intentional use\, AI can empower children to think critically and innovate\, using technology to create\, communicate\, and explore. \nFor Montessori educators\, AI is a game-changer\, streamlining administrative tasks and enriching lesson planning\, allowing educators to focus more on what truly matters—inspiring and guiding our students. We must model thoughtful engagement with AI\, teaching digital skills that students will need in the future. \nParticipants will engage with case studies from Montessori classrooms that demonstrate how AI aligns with and supports Montessori philosophy. This includes fostering self-directed learning and independence while cultivating critical thinking\, creativity\, and concentration skills. Through interactive activities\, participants will discover practical AI tools tailored for Montessori settings\, equipping them with strategies to leverage AI’s potential while upholding the core principles of Montessori education. \nAbout Amelia Cobb\nAmelia Cobb is a distinguished Lead Teacher and School Leader at Montessori East Primary & Pre School. She is instrumental in embedding inclusive education strategies and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into the Montessori curriculum\, guided by the Curriculum Handbooks she has authored and published through MSCA. \nAs a Montessori graduate and educator\, Amelia’s deep understanding of Montessori principles drives her commitment to ensuring Montessori education remains relevant and impactful in a changing world.
