SUMMARY:Montessori in the Age of AI with Amelia Cobb
DESCRIPTION:Montessori in the Age of AI\nHow can Montessori educators prepare children to approach AI with curiosity and discernment in a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence? \nAs AI integrates deeply into learning\, communicating\, and understanding the world\, our students must develop digital literacy to navigate this landscape effectively. This literacy extends beyond traditional skills\, including the ability to question\, analyse\, and discern truth in an era where AI can obscure the line between fact and fiction. \nIn this session\, we explore how AI does not replace human thinking but acts as a tool to enhance creativity\, curiosity\, and problem-solving. With intentional use\, AI can empower children to think critically and innovate\, using technology to create\, communicate\, and explore. \nFor Montessori educators\, AI is a game-changer\, streamlining administrative tasks and enriching lesson planning\, allowing educators to focus more on what truly matters—inspiring and guiding our students. We must model thoughtful engagement with AI\, teaching digital skills that students will need in the future. \nParticipants will engage with case studies from Montessori classrooms that demonstrate how AI aligns with and supports Montessori philosophy. This includes fostering self-directed learning and independence while cultivating critical thinking\, creativity\, and concentration skills. Through interactive activities\, participants will discover practical AI tools tailored for Montessori settings\, equipping them with strategies to leverage AI’s potential while upholding the core principles of Montessori education. \nAbout Amelia Cobb\nAmelia Cobb is a distinguished Lead Teacher and School Leader at Montessori East Primary & Pre School. She is instrumental in embedding inclusive education strategies and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into the Montessori curriculum\, guided by the Curriculum Handbooks she has authored and published through MSCA. \nAs a Montessori graduate and educator\, Amelia’s deep understanding of Montessori principles drives her commitment to ensuring Montessori education remains relevant and impactful in a changing world.

SUMMARY:Montessori in the Primary Years with Alice Champion
DESCRIPTION:Montessori in the Primary Years with Alice Champion\nHave you wondered what makes Montessori education so special for children aged 6-12? Or been curious about what “Cosmic Education” really means? \nWhether your family is new to Montessori or your child has experienced the early years\, this workshop will deepen your understanding of how children learn and thrive in Montessori primary classrooms. \nDuring the primary years (ages 6-12)\, children enter a remarkable phase of development. Their imaginations ignite\, their curiosity extends beyond the world to the whole universe\, and they become captivated by the “big picture”—asking profound questions about where we come from\, who we are\, and how everything connects. Montessori education meets these characteristics with an approach unlike any other: rather than starting with isolated facts\, we begin with the grand story of the universe itself\, scattering seeds of information that children follow through their own exploration and discovery. \nIn this session\, you’ll discover: \n\nHow Cosmic Education serves as the unifying element of the Montessori curriculum\, demonstrating the interconnectedness of sciences\, art\, history\, language\, mathematics\, and geography.\nThe power of the Five Great Lessons—awe-inspiring stories that span from the beginning of the universe to the development of human communication—and how these foundational narratives inspire children to research\, explore\, and identify connections.\nWhy children learn through hands-on experiential work\, small group collaboration\, and “Going Out” experiences in the community\, rather than worksheets and textbooks.\nHow this approach develops not just academic knowledge\, but also cultivates peace\, gratitude\, and an understanding of each child’s unique role in creating a sustainable future.\n\nParents and caregivers will leave inspired and informed about the Montessori approach to the primary years. Early childhood educators are especially encouraged to attend—this workshop will equip you to help families understand the profound benefits of continuing their Montessori journey through the primary years. \nJoin us to explore how Montessori education nurtures children aged 6-12 to become confident\, curious learners who see themselves as significant agents in the world. \nAbout Alice Champion\nAlice Champion

SUMMARY:Montessori - An Aid to Life For All with Amy Kirkham
DESCRIPTION:Montessori – An Aid to Life for All\n“This is education\, understood as a help to life; an education from birth\, which feeds a peaceful revolution and unites all in a common aim.”\n— Maria Montessori\, The Absorbent Mind \nWe say we follow the child\, Montessori is for all children – but is it? Are we really meeting the needs of all children? —The child who is gifted\, who has additional needs or challenges\, who speaks a different language or comes from a different cultural background? Are we being inclusive? \nCome to this workshop to explore what inclusion means and how we can all become better at identifying and then meeting the needs of each child. \nMontessori education is often associated with early childhood\, yet Dr Maria Montessori’s vision was far broader. She understood education as an aid to life—one that supports human development across all ages\, cultures\, and contexts. \nThis session explores how Montessori principles can be meaningfully applied from birth through adulthood\, and why Montessori remains relevant in diverse cultural\, educational\, and community settings around the world. \nParticipants will examine: \n\nHow Montessori principles support development across the lifespan\nWhy Montessori is adaptable across cultures and contexts\nWhat it means to view education as an aid to life\, not just schooling\nHow Montessori practice can foster dignity\, independence\, and peace at every stage of life\n\nThis session is ideal for educators\, leaders\, parents\, and anyone interested in a deeper understanding of Montessori as a holistic\, human-centred approach to life and learning. \nAbout Amy Kirkham\nAmy Kirkham has worked in Early Childhood since 1988 as an Early Childhood Teacher\, Play Therapist at the Royal Children’s Hospital\, Montessori Directress\, Lecturer\, Consultant and Trainer. \nAmy gained her AMI 3 to 6 Diploma in 1993 and was awarded her AMI 3 to 6 Trainers’ Certificate in 2006.  She also holds an AMI Certificate for 0 to 3\, 6 to 12 and Adolescents\, Montessori Core Principles and Montessori Sports.  In addition to her Montessori qualifications\, Amy is a VIT registered Early Childhood Teacher and has a Bachelor of Educational Studies (Hearing Impairment) and a Master of Education from the University of Melbourne. \nAmy has been the 3 to 6 AMI Director of Training in Melbourne since 2008 and worked as a member of the 3 to 6 Training Faculty on Diploma\, Foundation\, Certificate\, Administrators and Mentor courses in China and Taiwan.  She has been an AMI examiner in Australia\, China\, New Zealand\, Thailand and Japan. Amy joined SMTC in 2019 as the Director of Training for the 3 – 6 Diploma and Orientation Certificate courses.
