Feeding Young Minds: A Community Effort by Rockingham Montessori Students

In Term 2 2025, Rockingham Montessori School joined the Eat Up Program. The program is funded in Western Australia by Telethon7 and ATCO, as well as several clubs and volunteer organisations. This national program engages volunteers to make and deliver cheese sandwiches to schools enabling children who arrive without lunch access to a substantial meal.

Rockingham montessori school students making sandwiches

Rockingham Montessori School’s adolescent students have made 1800 sandwiches every three weeks and the Rockingham Country Women’s Association then deliver the sandwiches, fruit and snacks to 18 local primary and high schools. The three-hour sandwich making sessions occur in our commercial kitchen and the students sign up to volunteer for the morning shifts before the CWA volunteers arrive to collect the orders.  Upon delivery the receiving school will then freeze the sandwiches and have toasty making facilities to ensure their children have a nutritious warm treat every day that is required.

I urge your school or centre to get involved as this is true valorisation for our students.
